This two-role job guarantees cleanliness, safety, and productivity of the parks and roadways of Whitby. You will be working at large trucks, organizing garbage collection, sweeping the roads, answering the questions of the citizens or the tourists, participating in various work in the winter, like snow clearing and trail care.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Garbage Collector (Parks) (April–November):

  • Empty refuse bins and underground containers using a 0–8 ton crane.
  • Perform litter collection and property inspections.
  • Operate trucks over 11,000 kg G.V.W. and conduct daily maintenance.
  • Report safety issues or vandalism.
  • Deliver responsive customer service to park users.

Roads Labourer: (November–March):

  • Operate snow-clearing and sidewalk equipment.
  • Install traffic signage and manage traffic during operations.
  • Assist with concrete repairs, tree trimming, and general maintenance.
  • Patrol and inspect roads for deficiencies.
  • Respond to winter emergencies, including after-hours shifts.

Job Requirements:

Education: Secondary school diploma.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year in park or road maintenance.
  • 1 year of experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg G.V.W.

Certifications/Licences:

  • Valid DZ driver’s license in good standing.
  • 0–8 ton crane operator certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Defensive driving certification.

Skills:

  • Effective communicator and team player.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and municipal operations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently.

Salary and Benefits:

Hourly Wage:

  • Parks Role: $30.26 – $37.84/hour (Band F)
  • Roads Role: $28.31 – $35.42/hour (Band G)

Schedule: 40 hours/week with flexible shifts between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
