Job Description

The General Laborer helps keep the city’s roads, parks, and streets clean and working. Roles and Responsibilities

Road & Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Fill potholes and road slumps using asphalt and other materials
  • Dig trenches and assist with concrete work for sidewalks, catch basins, etc.
  • Cut, tamp, and smooth asphalt surfaces

Waste Management

  • Collect household garbage and large discarded items
  • Empty public trash bins in parks and on streets

Winter Operations

  • Shovel snow from buildings, roofs, and street furniture
  • Spread abrasives on walkways and driveways
  • Install/remove “no parking” signs and assist snowblowers

Park & Public Space Maintenance

  • Install and remove benches, fences, and tree guards
  • Cut grass and repair damaged green areas
  • Participate in seasonal landscaping and outdoor setup

General Support

  • Assist tradespeople and technicians
  • Clean and maintain municipal garage floors
  • Wash city vehicles and perform other light maintenance duties

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma (DES)
  • License: Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 is a strong asset)
